Wike Reveals Rivers Rainbow Coalition’s N500 Million Donation to Late Senator Mpigi’s Family Amid Tribute Push”

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has disclosed that the Rivers Rainbow Coalition donated N500 million to the family of the late Senator Barinada Mpigi, in what he described as part of efforts to honour the legacy of the deceased lawmaker.

Wike made the revelation while speaking at a public engagement in Rivers State, noting that the contribution was channeled towards supporting a proposed foundation established in memory of the late senator. According to him, the gesture reflects the coalition’s appreciation for Mpigi’s contributions to public service and his role in the political development of Rivers State.

The former Rivers State governor emphasized that the donation was not a political statement but a humanitarian intervention aimed at supporting the bereaved family and preserving the values the late senator stood for. He further highlighted the importance of unity among political stakeholders in times of loss, describing Mpigi as a committed public servant whose influence cut across party and community lines.

The announcement has since drawn attention within Nigeria’s political circles, particularly in Rivers State, where discussions continue around the activities of the Rivers Rainbow Coalition and its broader engagement in community and political support initiatives.

As of the time of filing this report, details surrounding the structure and operations of the proposed foundation remain limited, but sources indicate that it is expected to focus on community development and youth empowerment initiatives in honour of the late senator’s legacy.
