The University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) has recorded a significant turnout, with over 100 patients benefiting from its ongoing 50 percent discount on selected dental treatments.
The initiative, part of activities marking the 2026 World Oral Health Day themed “A Happy Mouth is a Happy Life,” is organised by the Nigerian Dental Association in collaboration with UBTH.
Speaking on the exercise, the Coordinator of the UBTH Dental Centre, Dr. Nneka Chumwumah, expressed satisfaction with the impressive turnout since the programme began.
She noted that the discount is aimed at improving oral health within the community by making dental care more affordable and accessible, adding that more than 100 patients have already received various dental procedures at reduced costs.
Dr. Chumwumah also commended the hospital management for prioritising oral healthcare through the initiative.
Some beneficiaries, who spoke anonymously, lauded the UBTH management, led by the Chief Medical Director, Prof. Idia Ize-Iyamu, describing the programme as timely and impactful.
They said the 50 percent discount has eased the financial burden of dental treatments, enabling more people to access essential oral healthcare services.
It will be recalled that Prof. Ize-Iyamu officially flagged off the programme on Monday, announcing that the discounted services would run from March 16 to 19 at the UBTH Dental Centre.
The offer covers essential procedures including scaling and polishing, tooth extractions, Glass Ionomer Cement (GIC) restorations, and dental radiographs.
