Tanzanian singer Zuchu has confirmed the end of her six-year relationship with fellow music star Diamond Platnumz, calling it a decision made “with a heavy heart” to protect her wellbeing.
In an emotional statement posted to her Instagram Stories on Sunday, July 13 2026, the “Sukari” hitmaker told fans she was stepping away from one of East Africa’s most-watched celebrity couples to focus on healing, health, and her music.
“I announce this with a heavy heart. After six years of being together, I have finally decided to choose myself,” Zuchu, born Zuhura Othman Soud, wrote.
My focus now is on healing, my health, and my music. I wish Diamond and his family well, and I hold no bitterness toward them.”
She closed the message with the Islamic phrase _Hasbunallahu wa ni‘mal Wakeel_ — “Allah is sufficient for me” — signaling that she was placing her trust in God during a difficult period.
The timing of Zuchu’s statement drew immediate attention online. Hours before her post, Baba Levo, a Tanzanian Member of Parliament and close associate of Diamond Platnumz, publicly claimed that Zuchu was pregnant.
Zuchu did not address the pregnancy rumours in her statement. She kept her message focused solely on the breakup and did not give a specific reason for the split
The lack of detail from both sides has left fans speculating, but Zuchu’s tone was clear: she was choosing to prioritize herself Zuchu and Diamond became one of East Africa’s most high-profile couples after they were first linked in 2020. Both are signed to Diamond’s Wasafi label, and their relationship unfolded largely in public.
Fans followed joint red carpet appearances, music collaborations, social media exchanges, and family moments. Over the years, the pair were the subject of repeated breakup rumors, only to later appear together again. That cycle made some followers skeptical that this separation would be final.
But this time, Zuchu’s language suggested finality. There was no mention of reconciliation, no tagging, and no shared content — just a direct statement asking for privacy as she moves forward.
For many in Tanzania and across the region, the two represented a modern power couple in Bongo Flava: he the established mogul and hitmaker, she the younger vocalist who rose quickly under his mentorship and label.
Another commenter, @meisha1423, was more critical of Diamond: “The only person Diamond loves is himself and his family, including his kids…”
The range of reactions reflects how invested East African audiences have become in the couple’s story — and how closely celebrity relationships are watched in the region’s entertainment scene.
Zuchu has built a catalog of hits including “Sukari,” “Nana,” and “Cheche.” She has toured across Africa and Europe and is seen as one of the leading female voices in Tanzanian pop. In her statement, she said music would now be a central focus as she navigates this new chapter.
Diamond Platnumz continues to run Wasafi Media and remains one of Africa’s most-streamed artists. He is also a father of four and has spoken in the past about family and business as his priorities.
It is unclear how the split will affect future collaborations between the two, or their work under the same label
For six years, Zuchu and Diamond’s relationship was treated as both romance and brand. Their music, their public appearances, and even their arguments were part of the narrative fans consumed.
With this announcement, Zuchu is asking for that narrative to shift — away from speculation and toward her work as an artist.
“I’m grateful for the years we had,” she implied in her post. “But I need to do this for me.”
Whether the separation is permanent remains to be seen. East African celebrity culture has seen many “final” breakups followed by comebacks.
