“2027 Elections: Cross River APC Endorses Tinubu, Governor Otu  Pledges 1.5 Million Votes in Strategic South-South Push”

Cross River State Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Cross River State have formally declared their backing for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections, pledging to mobilize at least 1.5 million votes in his favour.
The commitment was led by Cross River State Governor  Bassey Otu during a high-level party meeting attended by state executives, federal and state lawmakers, and key grassroots mobilizers. Party leaders described the move as a strategic consolidation effort aimed at strengthening the APC’s electoral base in the South-South region.
Party Unity and Federal Alignment
Governor Otu characterized the endorsement as a reflection of party cohesion and alignment with the reform agenda of the Tinubu administration. He reiterated Cross River’s commitment to deepening collaboration with the Federal Government, particularly in infrastructure expansion, economic diversification, job creation, and social development programmes.
State APC leaders also called for sustained federal interventions and increased visibility of national projects within Cross River, arguing that tangible development outcomes would reinforce public trust and voter confidence ahead of the next election cycle.
Political observers interpret the endorsement as part of broader internal positioning within the APC as preparations for 2027 gradually gather momentum. Although the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has yet to release the official timetable for the 2027 elections, political consultations and early endorsements have intensified across party lines nationwide.
Cross River’s Evolving Political Landscape
Cross River has experienced notable political shifts in recent years. The state’s realignment with the APC in 2021, following a wave of defections from opposition figures, significantly altered the South-South political equation. Since then, the ruling party has sought to consolidate its foothold in a region historically known for competitive multiparty dynamics.
In the 2023 presidential election, President Tinubu secured varying levels of support across southern states, with voting patterns reflecting both regional and socio-economic considerations. The APC’s renewed mobilization drive in Cross River signals an effort to expand its vote share in the South-South, a zone traditionally influenced by opposition blocs.
Analysts caution, however, that public endorsements while politically symbolic do not automatically translate into electoral outcomes. Voter turnout, economic performance, security conditions, and public perception of governance will likely shape the political climate as 2027 approaches.
Reform Agenda and National Stakes
Since assuming office in May 2023, President Tinubu has implemented sweeping economic reforms, including the removal of fuel subsidies and adjustments to Nigeria’s foreign exchange framework. The policies have drawn both domestic and international attention, with supporters describing them as necessary structural corrections and critics highlighting their short-term socio-economic impact.
As early political alignments take shape, the Cross River APC’s pledge underscores the strategic importance of grassroots mobilization and regional consolidation within Nigeria’s evolving democratic framework.
