The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency has confirmed the arrest of the elder brother of a lady named Abigail Chris, who had taken to the microblogging platform X (formerly Twitter) to share her experience of assault at the hands of her brother.
In a response to the agency’s spokesperson stated that the case had been received and a referral letter was sent to the Okokomaiko Police Station for investigation. Abigail had been suffering physical abuse from her brother since 2014, and the most recent incident occurred on Pictures and a note written by Abigail after the assault provided evidence of her injuries and emotional distress. Another X user alleged that Abigail’s family had been trying to cover up the brother’s actions.
The agency confirmed that the perpetrator had been arrested and investigations were ongoing. The Lagos State Ministry of Justice reported receiving 5,624 cases of domestic and sexual violence between
