If the government of Nigeria does not invest in healthcare and education, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) predicts that 250 million Nigerians would fall into poverty in the future years.
This was discussed at a legislative meeting in Abuja on Monday, November 21 to speed up Nigeria’s demographic transition, and was said by the UNFPA Country Representative, Ms. Ulla Mueller.
In a world of 8 billion people, she said, “the imperative we have is to take actions now, in a country that in a very few years will be the third most populous in the world, there could be 250 million people that feel a sense of opportunities and possibilities, but with the wrong investment, there could be 250 million people living in increased poverty and increased insecurity.”
This has to be documented. It’s impossible to achieve this kind of widespread health and demographic change without family planning.
