President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended heartfelt congratulations to all those victorious in the by-elections held on Saturday, August 16, in 16 constituencies spanning 12 states of the federation.
In a statement released on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu praised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for organising a smooth, largely peaceful electoral processāone that was āmostly devoid of violence.ā
According to the results declared by INEC:

The All Progressives Congress (APC) claimed victory in 12 constituencies.

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) won two.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) secured one constituency each.
President Tinubu specifically lauded the APC’s newly appointed National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, for the partyās emphatic first win under his leadership. āChairman Yilwatda has shown leadership capacity and demonstrated what is achievable when popular candidates are fielded and with unity of purpose among party leaders,ā he remarked.
He went on to thank APC governors and other party leaders for their roles in the electoral success. Tinubu also conveyed appreciation to all APC supporters and the electorate for their confidence in the party, affirming that the “Renewed Hope” slogan is more than just words. āOur destination is a better, more secure and prosperous Nigeria. We shall take you there, by the Grace of God,ā he vowed.
Beyond praising his party, the President commended all political parties and candidates who participated in the election, urging them to uphold sportsmanship and magnanimityāprinciples he noted are essential to fortifying Nigeriaās democratic spirit.
