No Construction Engineer Go Fit Fix Road During Rainy Season — Afegbua

Edo State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Prince Kassim Afegbua, don appeal to Edo people make dem get patience over the bad condition of roads for the state, as e talk say no serious construction engineer go fit properly repair roads during heavy rainy season.

Afegbua talk this one while e dey address journalists during the ministry monthly media briefing.

For the briefing, Commissioner for Arts, Culture and Creative Economy, Hon. Chris Okaeben; Executive Secretary of Edo State Drugs and Health Commodities Management Agency, Kenny Okojie; and Special Adviser on Health Matters, Dr. Andrew Iyamu, join am.

According to Afegbua, if government begin major road repair work during heavy rain, e fit lead to waste of construction materials and the work fit no last.

E talk say Governor Monday Okpebholo administration dey prepare to carry out massive road repairs once dry season start.

Afegbua also accuse the immediate past administration of doing some road projects wey no strong enough, saying the way some of the roads don spoil now raise questions about the quality of the work.

E urge Edo people make dem continue to get patience with Governor Okpebholo, saying the governor dey determined to make roads across the state better and motorable.

“Edo State Government under the leadership of Senator Monday Okpebholo dey fully aware of its responsibility and dey work to tackle the developmental challenges wey the state dey face, whether na new ones or the ones wey the government inherit.

“One major issue na the matter of roads. If the previous government had done credible, quality and durable roads, we for no dey complain or lament like this today.

“Plenty of these roads inside Benin metropolis na roads wey the previous administration under Governor Godwin Obaseki rehabilitate and repair,” Afegbua talk.

Afegbua also react to criticism from supporters of the former administration, saying the present condition of many roads show say some of the previous road projects no get the expected quality.

“The level of road decay wey we dey see now show say some of the roads na quantity dem focus on, no be quality.

“Because of the bad road situation, we carry out assessment for roads around GRA, Iyekogba Estate, Irihrihi and Okoroma. These na roads wey the Obaseki-led administration say dem work on.

“If you go there now, plenty of the roads get potholes and don begin spoil seriously. E go make person wonder wetin all the celebration about the roads that time really mean.

“Roads suppose last for reasonable number of years, depending on how dem design and construct am.

“I dey mention these roads because people dey criticise us for social media and dey ask wetin this government dey do.

“No construction engineer go want begin serious pothole repairs and major road rehabilitation during heavy rainy season. Rain dey fall seriously now,” Afegbua conclude.
