RIVERS CHIEF JUDGE DON SET 14 PEOPLE FREE FROM PRISON.

Di Chief Judge of Rivers State, Justice Simeon Chibuzor Amadi, don open prison gate for 14 prisoners for Port Harcourt Maximum Security Custodial Centre.

Dis one happen on Tuesday as part of activities for di opening of di 2026/2027 legal year, during di jail delivery exercise wey take place inside di prison.

Di exercise na for people wey don spend too much time for custody, especially those wey di time wey dem don stay for prison don pass di punishment wey di law for allow if court bin don find dem guilty.

Di exercise also cover people wey their cases don stay too long, no be because of dem own fault, but because government agencies or court processes don delay di matter.

As e talk to di people, Justice Chibuzor Amadi say e carry out di exercise under di power wey di Criminal Justice (Release from Custody) Act give am. E say di move go help reduce di crowd for prison.

Di Chief Judge also warn officers of Nigerian Correctional Service make dem stop for leaking secret information to prisoners, especially information about di names of people wey dem plan for release before di exercise day. E say dis kind information fit create tension and disturb di whole process.

To di 14 people wey don regain freedom, Justice Chibuzor Amadi tell dem make dem return to society and live as peace ambassadors.

E warn dem say make dem avoid crime wey fit carry dem go back prison, because another chance like dis fit no come easy again.

As political season dey approach, di Chief Judge also warn di youths make dem no allow politicians use dem for violence or trouble.

E say na youths dey often suffer di consequences of political violence, so dem need for stay away from anything wey fit put dem lives for danger.

Di Controller of Corrections for Rivers State, Richard Moses Williams, praise di state judiciary and Justice Chibuzor Amadi for di exercise.

Moses Williams say di jail delivery exercise dey important because e dey help reduce overcrowding for prisons and make sure say justice reach everybody.
