The Nigeria Judo Federation (NJF) today, October 28, 2025, joined the global Judo community in commemorating World Judo Day, with the Federation’s President, Dr. Musa Oshodi, calling on Nigerians to uphold the values of peace, unity, and mutual respect as essential foundations for a better society.
Celebrated annually on October 28, World Judo Day honors the birthday of Judo’s founder, Professor Jigoro Kano. This year’s theme, “Peace,” highlights Judo’s enduring philosophy of harmony, respect, and discipline, principles that transcend sport and speak directly to nation-building.
In a statement signed by the NJF General Secretary, Mr. Jude Atoe, Dr. Oshodi urged Judokas across Nigeria to use the occasion to promote peace and unity within their clubs, states, and communities. He encouraged practitioners to mark the day with training sessions and demonstrations symbolizing discipline and togetherness, two of Judo’s core principles.
“Peace remains the foundation for progress in sports and in national development,” Dr. Oshodi said. “As Judokas, we must continue to embody the values of respect, friendship, and courage that define our sport, both on and off the mat.”
The 2025 World Judo Day celebration, supported by Café Grace Hotel/Bar and the Youths & Sports Empowerment Initiative, is scheduled to hold at the FCT Complex, Old Parade Ground, Garki, Abuja.
Dr. Oshodi reaffirmed the Federation’s commitment to promoting Judo’s ideals nationwide and extended warm greetings to all Nigerian Judokas, encouraging them to keep the spirit of Judo alive through discipline, harmony, and understanding.
In his goodwill message, Senator Neda Imaseun, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions, commended the NJF for its dedication to fostering peace through sport. He described Judo as “a reminder that every bow, every grip, and every throw carries the power to bring us together.”
