The Edo State Police Command has announced the deployment of 7,825 personnel to ensure a safe and peaceful conduct of the August 16, 2025 senatorial by-election.
According to a statement from the Command, the officers will be drawn from Zone 5 Headquarters, the Edo State Command, Police Mobile Force (PMF), Special Intervention Squad (SIS), and the Election Monitoring Team from the Force Headquarters, Abuja. The deployment, the Command said, will provide security before, during, and after the polls, safeguarding voters, election officials, and materials while maintaining law and order.
To further secure the process, the Command has imposed a restriction of movement in all election areas from midnight on Friday, August 15, to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 16. Only persons on essential duties with valid identification will be allowed passage.
Commissioner of Police Monday Agbonika, fdc, urged the public to comply with the restriction order and warned that any individual or group found attempting to disrupt the election or breach the peace would face the full weight of the law.
The Command assured that it would remain neutral and professional throughout the exercise and encouraged voters to come out and cast their ballots without fear, noting that “adequate arrangements have been made for their safety.”
