There was pandemonium in Ninte village, near Kafanchan, Kaduna State recently when gunmen suspected to be marauding herdsmen stormed Warri Street, killing over dozen residents and abducted several women and girls. A Nursing school and hospital belonging to the Catholic Church were reportedly burnt down by the attackers.
Reports from the area said the incident which occurred on May 28,2015, left many residents panicking about their safety for hours.
According to sources, the herdsmen armed with sophisticated weapons, stormed Warri Street , a predominantly Christian area at about two o’ clock in the afternoon.
” Immediately they arrived, they started shooting indiscriminately, people were running in all directions. Several persons were shot dead and many wounded”, the sources said.
He further said the attackers who came in two Hilux vans, abducted scores of women and girls, apparently for ransom.
Among the dead and those abducted were female nursing students of St Jero Catholic Hospital, Kafanchan.
Many residents are reportedly still suffering from the trauma of the attack while others are living daily in fears of another possible attacks in the area.
Kaduna State has been the epicenter of herdsmen attacks and the security authorities are yet to halt their occurrences across the state.
