His Royal Majesty, Omo N’ Oba N’ Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II, Oba of Benin, will perform the traditional Emoro, otherwise known as the new yam festival, in his palace, Benin City, Edo State, today.
A statement by Chief Stanley Obamwonyi, the Esere of Benin on behalf of the Palace, notes the celebration is in line with the Benin customs and tradition, saying the Omo N’ Oba N’ Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, has decided to resuscitate the ancient Emoro traditional festival that has not been celebrated for many years.
According to Chief Esere, in addition, Oba Ewuare II has invited all sons and daughters of Benin Kingdom including members of the Benin Royal family, Palace Chiefs, Edionwere, Okao, lgiohen (Priests and Priestesses), market women among others, to a feast billed for Friday, October 6, 2023, at the Oba’s Palace by 12pm prompt.
