Gunmen, believed to be carjackers, reportedly shot dead a driver who reported it by text message and stole his car in the Rumuokarabo area of Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.
This comes barely 48 hours after the state Commissioner of Police, Emeka Nwoni, arrested five suspected car thieves in various parts of the state, some of whom took cars from Bolt drivers. .
According to a witness, he was on his way to his D/Line area of the metropolis when he suddenly heard what sounded like people fighting inside the car.
According to a source who requested anonymity, the incident occurred in Rumuokaralagbor on Monday around 10:12pm.
And he added: “When I looked closely, I saw two men in a red Spider car, one in the front and one in the back, dragging the driver backwards and punching him in the face.
“Then I heard gunshots and they got in their car and drove off. So I ran backwards and saw the driver get shot and thrown out of the car. Others saw the Bolt’s driver claim they shot him in the leg and stole the car.
“He was bleeding, there was blood all over his body. He was taken to the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital for treatment.”
He said that as soon as the gunshots were heard, very few people came from the adjoining streets.Those who were still outside. ran away.
