Edo’s Automatic Employment Policy

Edo state trains workers for 2022/2023 promotion

The policy of offering automatic employment to first-class graduates from Edo extraction under the Governor Godwin Obaseki-led administration is aimed at incentivizing academic excellence and providing a tangible reward for outstanding performance.

This policy does not only motivate students to excel in their studies, but also addresses the concern of graduates struggling to secure employment after completing their education in the university.

Through the assurance of a job opportunity upon graduation, the administration is contributing to a positive and competitive academic environment. With the policy, students are now more driven to invest time and efforts in their studies, believing that their hard work will be recognized and rewarded with a promising career path.

This recognition also has the potential of attracting more individuals to pursue higher education because the prospect of a guaranteed job serves as a tangible return on the educational investment, which by extension contributes to overall development of the State through the cultivation of a knowledgeable and skilled workforce.

The initiative is currently playing a significant role in shaping the educational landscape and workforce development of the Edo State region in fostering a positive cycle of academic and professional achievement.

This laudable policy has successfully alleviated the issues of brain drain that used to undermine the socio-economic sector of the State, ultimately hindering the growth and sustainability of our nation.

Recently, while reaffirming his Government’s commitment to building quality manpower to sustain the ongoing reforms in the State’s civil and public service to drive development, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, again offered automatic employment to 12 first class graduating students of the Edo State University, Uzairue, during the school’s fifth convocation ceremony in Etsako West Local Government Area of the State.

It is worthy to recall that early in the year 2023, while approving the automatic employment policy for first class graduates, the Governor through the State Head of Service, Anthony Okungbowa Esq. (Ph.d), described the initiative as pace-setting and a worthy move that would equip the Edo State Civil and Public Service with the best brains to engender the vision of making Edo the best place to live and work before 2050.

The gesture, which was initially extended to the Best Graduating Students of the Edo State University, Uzairue, during its third Convocation Ceremony, was later extended to the University of Benin and Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, among other institutions.

While it is germane to document the various batches of first-class graduates who have secured automatic employment under Governor Obaseki’s leadership in the Edo State Civil/Public sector since the endorsement of the policy, it is indisputable that this initiative has firmly established itself as a lasting legacy alongside other developmental policies in the State.

Beyond commemorating specific achievements, the purpose is also to assist in navigating through potential challenges that may arise while steering the course of public/civil service.
