Lagos State Government Takes Swift Action Following Waterpark Incident

In response to a safety incident at the newly-opened Giwa Gardens Waterpark in Lagos, the Lagos State Government has declared its commitment to enforcing safety regulations in fun-seeking facilities.

The Commissioner for Information, Gbenga Omotoso, emphasized that safety is everyone’s responsibility.

The incident involved Masidat Kassim, who suffered injuries at the waterpark and shared her experience on Instagram. Kassim highlighted issues such as shallow pools, inadequate safety measures, and subpar first aid services at Giwa Gardens.

Commissioner Omotoso stated that any facility violating safety regulations would face closure, emphasizing that once an offense occurs, it becomes a criminal matter handled by the police. He urged the public to report safety concerns, enabling the safety commission to take appropriate action.

Masidat Kassim’s Instagram post detailed her unfortunate experiences at Giwa Gardens, prompting a call for caution when visiting the water park. She specifically urged the Lagos State Government to conduct a thorough quality control check at the facility.

The owner of Giwa Gardens, Keji Giwa, publicly apologized for Kassim’s experience and assured her of a free premium ticket with food and drinks for her next visit. The Lagos State Safety Commission is actively investigating the incident.

Commissioner Omotoso confirmed that Giwa Gardens has been temporarily shut down, pending the fulfillment of safety conditions. He added that the safety commission has required the park’s management to personally apologize to Masidat Kassim, demonstrating the seriousness of the government’s response.

This incident underscores the importance of maintaining safety standards in recreational facilities, and the Lagos State Government’s swift action aims to ensure the well-being of residents and visitors.
