The Federal Government of Nigeria has approved the implementation of some recommendations from the Stephen Oronsaye Report, which was submitted in 2024
The report recommended the reduction of the number of government agencies and the merger of certain agencies to reduce the cost of governance. As a result, 29 government agencies will be merged and eight parastatals will be subsumed into other agencies. Additionally, four agencies will be relocated to different ministries, and one agency will be scrapped.
The implementation of these recommendations is aimed at reducing the cost of governance and freeing up funds for developmental projects. The move is not expected to result in job losses, as employees will find accommodation within the new structure. The Nigerian Government could save over N241 billion if the report is fully implemented.
