University of Ilorin Rusticates 19 Students for Various Offences

In a recent development at the University of Ilorin, Kwara state, the authorities have taken disciplinary action against 19 students, including six final year students, for their involvement in a range of offenses. The decision was made following the recommendations of the Students’ Disciplinary Committee at its 220th/221st meeting, which were subsequently approved by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Wahab Egbewole (SAN).University of Ilorin Rusticates 19 Students for Various Offences

The offenses cited in the press statement by the Director Corporate Affairs of the University, Kunle Akogun, include misconduct, theft, examination malpractice, hostel bed-space racketeering, extortion, assault, admission racketeering, and beating a fellow student.

 

According to the statement, the penalties imposed on the affected students vary, including rustication for either one semester or one academic session, as well as expulsion. The students involved are from different academic levels, ranging from 100 to 400 Levels, across various faculties and departments of the institution.

 

The affected students include Adebayo Adeleke (Arts/Performing Arts), Hassan Hanan Adebola (Arts/History and International Studies), Amatokwu Evans (Education/Art Education), Ayodele Samuel Koseunti (Arts/History and International Studies), Toki Opeyemi Ayomide (Arts/History and International Studies), Makinde Usman Ayomide (Arts/Linguistic and Nigeria Languages), Nwachukwu Chinedu Joshua (Life Sciences/Biochemistry), Onibiyo Eniola Gideon (Arts/History and International Studies), Oshinboluro Temitope Joshua (Physical Sciences/Mathematics), Sulaimon Mayowa (Life Sciences/Biochemistry), Badmus Rasheedat Ajoke (Physical Sciences/Chemistry), Afolayan Damilola (Mathematics/Physical Sciences), Ajibola Oluwaseyi Temiloluwa (Water Resources & Environmental Engineering/Engineering & Technology), Akorede Isiaka Nifemi (Mathematics/Physical Sciences), Bolanta Taiye Zainab (Industrial Relations and Personnel Management/Engineering & Technology), Elegede Favour Emmauel (Physiology/Basic Medical Science), Ojelabi Ibukunoluwa Micheal (Anatomy/Basic Medical Science), Okeke Ruth Chinecherem (Performing Arts/Arts), and Okanle Oluwatimileyin Samuel (Physiotherapy/Basic Clinical Science).

 

In a related development, despite the recent 7-day nationwide warning strike declared by NASU/SSANU in public universities across the country, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Egbewole SAN, assured that the ongoing semester examination process at the University of Ilorin remained unaffected.

 

Speaking at the Ramadan Iftar with working journalists in the state, Prof. Egbewole commended the unions and the general staff of the institution for their responsible conduct during the strike period. He emphasized the priority of the university’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for students to learn and for staff to carry out their duties effectively, in line with the institution’s ‘Smart Agenda.’

 

The Vice Chancellor highlighted various achievements recorded by the university, including infrastructural developments such as the completion of the Chemical Engineering building, renovation of facilities, recruitment of academic and non-teaching staff, and efforts towards global recognition and sustainability.

 

In conclusion, Prof. Egbewole reiterated the university’s dedication to maintaining its academic calendar and providing quality education, while striving for excellence and innovation in higher education.
