Adebayo Taofiq, the Director of Public Affairs of LASTMA, confirmed the incident and provided details of the crash. The multiple collisions occurred around 7am on Tuesday. The driver was apprehended by LASTMA officials at the scene and was subsequently handed over to the police at the Alapere division.

According to Taofiq, “A commercial Toyota Hiace Bus (NSW 216 XA) fully loaded with pepper and other perishable items early this morning rammed into two other Volkswagen commercial buses and killed a pedestrian (male) at Ketu by Demurin Junction inward Kosofe, Lagos.” He also mentioned that preliminary investigations revealed that the accident was caused by a brake failure.

The injured passenger was promptly attended to by the Lagos ambulance services. Additionally, a female passenger who was trapped in one of the Volkswagen buses was rescued by LASTMA personnel and immediately transferred to the Lagos State Ambulance Service.

The General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, emphasized the importance of using designated bus stops and urged pedestrians to exercise caution. He also warned drivers to conduct routine vehicle checks, including the braking system, before embarking on any journey.

This incident serves as a reminder of the need for both drivers and pedestrians to prioritize safety on the roads. It is crucial for drivers to adhere to speed limits and ensure the proper maintenance of their vehicles. Pedestrians should use designated bus stops and exercise vigilance when crossing roads.

The Lagos State government continues to work towards improving road safety measures and enforcing traffic regulations. It is important for all road users to cooperate and contribute to creating a safer environment for everyone.
