In a heart-wrenching incident, the Lagos State Police Command has rescued two infants who were found locked up in an apartment on Adelakun Street in the Iju Ishaga area of Lagos State. The toddlers, who were in a state of neglect, were discovered during a rescue operation.
According to the Advocate for Children and Vulnerable Persons Network, a rights group, the mother of the infants has been struggling with substance abuse. The group was alerted to the situation by concerned residents in the area.
Ebenezer Omejalile, the Chief Operating Officer of the group, revealed that the mother would lock her children inside the apartment and be absent for the entire day, leaving the two minors to fend for themselves. 
The children would eat, defecate, sleep, and wake up locked in the room with no one attending to their needs. The Red House Police Station was informed of the situation, and the infants were subsequently rescued.
Videos captured during the rescue operation show one of the infants crying inside the locked-up apartment. In another video, the children can be seen eating after their rescue.
This is not the first time the police have rescued the toddlers from such a situation. According to Omejalile, a previous rescue operation was carried out by the former Divisional Police Officer (DPO), and the children were placed under the care of government authorities. However, they were later returned to their mother’s custody, a decision that has left many puzzled, including the former DPO who ensured their placement with government agencies.
The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the rescue, stating that the children are now in safe hands. The police are committed to protecting the well-being of vulnerable individuals and taking appropriate action in cases of neglect or abuse.
