The coming election in Edo state is akin to a ticking time bomb ready to detonate. This is a result of the unfolding attempt by the ruling party to remain in power by all means and at all costs, even though its candidate is a political neophyte who requires thorough schooling in political and community administration.
It is no news that the PDP is leveraging on the support of Gov. Godwin who has performed below his weight for victory. And as a quid pro quo, his compensation will be that upon the expiration of his tenure, his immunity will continue. This calculation is already in the minds and lips of many Edo state citizens and by this, the hue and cry of the people is for it not to happen.
Sadly, the level of maladministration in the state has reached an alarming crescendo so much so that the frustration occasioned by it, is evident on the faces of residents. The six-month journey to the exit of the incumbent Governor is so heavy that many wish it was tomorrow.
Since the emergence of the flagbearer of the PDP, which many insiders do not agree with, has suddenly become extremely notorious in his quest to “play the good boy” by visiting areas which ordinarily, he and his principal detest. His attempt to sell himself has been marred with negative comments and further weakened by his inability to relate effectively with the people either in prose or in poetry.
Many astute political critics are worried and wondering what could have informed his incessant movements, if not for cheap political gains and attempt to hoodwink the people into believing that he is one of them. However, the people are wiser if not for any reason, but for the continued vague promises from his mentor which hitherto have not transformed into any positive action.
As a people, we are not oblivious to the circumstances that brought about Gov. Godwin Obaseki in his first and second mandate, therefore looking at the degree of disappointment, Pain, suffering, hunger and infrastructural decay, it will be a reenactment of the bitter experience of Dr. Asue Ighodalo takes over governance on behalf of Mr. Godwin Obaseki in the state.
Going forward, a new chapter in the history book of the state is about to begin, therefore, all interested parties must be externally vigilant, so that the errors of the past should not replicate themselves.
Vote wisely!
