The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, has strongly condemned the shutdown of the national grid during the suspended industrial action by organized labor. He described the action as a treasonable felony, stating that nowhere in the world has organized labor ever shut down a country’s national grid.

The shutdown of the national grid was a result of the Transmission Company of Nigeria’s workers union joining the nationwide strike called by organized labor to demand a new minimum wage for workers. This led to a nationwide blackout and disruption of essential services.

Speaking at the National Executive Council of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Akume emphasized that President Bola Tinubu is working tirelessly to rebuild the country, while the actions of organized labor are aimed at destroying it. He stressed the importance of rebuilding the economy and questioned the motives behind sabotaging the progress that has been made.

Akume also highlighted the significant reforms that have been implemented under the current administration, including the removal of fuel subsidies. He acknowledged that these reforms may have been challenging for some to understand but emphasized the need for people to be aware of the actual truth and not be swayed by misinformation.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation emphasized the importance of unity and cooperation in rebuilding the nation and urged all stakeholders to work together towards achieving common goals. He highlighted the progress that has been made despite the challenging circumstances and called on Nigerians to support the government’s efforts in moving the country forward.National grid shutdown treasonable – SGF

Overall, Akume’s remarks underscore the government’s commitment to rebuilding the economy and addressing the issues facing the country. He urges Nigerians to remain focused on the larger goal of progress and development, and to avoid actions that could undermine these efforts.
