In a tragic incident, a community in Sokoto State was attacked by suspected gunmen in the early hours of Sunday, resulting in the death of at least six people and the abduction of over 100 residents. The police spokesman in Sokoto, Ahmed Rufai, confirmed the killings and abductions, although the full details of the attack are still unclear.

The Divisional Police Officer in Gwadabawa, Sokoto, led a team of policemen to assess the situation and restore normalcy. So far, six bodies have been recovered, and efforts are ongoing to locate and rescue the missing individuals. The attackers, believed to number around seven, entered the community armed with sophisticated firearms and indiscriminately shot at anyone in sight. They also abducted numerous members of the community.

Gwadabawa Local Government Area, located in the Eastern Senatorial District of Sokoto State, had been relatively peaceful until this unfortunate attack. The incident has caused shock and grief among the residents, who are now living in fear and calling for increased security measures.

Meanwhile, in Kaduna State, troops from Operation Whirl Punch conducted raid and clearance patrols, resulting in the killing of three bandits in the Gonna Rogo-Eka axis of Kajuru Local Government Area. The Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, confirmed the operation and stated that two AK-47 rifles, four AK-47 magazines, and 81 rounds of ammunition were recovered from the bandits.

This operation comes after the troops successfully neutralized 36 bandits, including Buhari Alhaji Halidu, a notorious bandit leader in the North. The news of these victories has brought relief and jubilation to residents of Kaduna-Katsina border communities.

Governor Uba Sani expressed his gratitude to the security forces and commended the troops for their dedication in ensuring a peaceful Eid celebration for the citizens. He also assured the public that the troops would continue their efforts to maintain security in the area.Six killed, scores abducted in Sokoto Sallah day attack

The incidents in Sokoto and Kaduna serve as a reminder of the ongoing security challenges in some parts of Nigeria. The government must prioritize the safety and well-being of its citizens by intensifying efforts to combat criminal activities and protect vulnerable communities.
