In a significant development, the Edo State Police Command has apprehended three individuals suspected to be members of the Maphite confraternity, a cult group. The suspects, identified as Eyefia Godbless, Imuetiyan Ewemade, and Emeka Okpaja, were paraded by the police commissioner, Funsho Adegboye, in Benin City.

The arrests took place in Ubiaza Community, Off Sapele Road, where the suspects were allegedly planning to seek revenge for the killing of a fellow member. The Edo State Government, led by Governor Godwin Obaseki, has expressed its full support for the fight against cultism and criminality in the state.
During the operation, the police recovered several items from the suspects, including an automatic pump action gun, 11 live cartridges, three green berets, and a Maphite constitution. Commissioner Adegboye emphasized the dangerous nature of the weapons seized, particularly the automatic pump action gun, which has the potential to cause significant harm.
The police commissioner highlighted the commitment of the Edo State Government and the police force to rid the state of cultism and criminal activities. He urged the youth to engage in positive and productive endeavors, emphasizing that crime, cultism, and internet fraud do not lead to success.
In addition to the arrest of the three suspected cultists, the police reported other recent arrests related to criminal activities. Five suspects were apprehended at a cultist hideout along Siluko Road, where two pump action guns, two locally made single barrel guns, and 20 live cartridges were recovered.
Furthermore, one individual, identified as Osayande Tony, was arrested while driving a Mercedes Benz C300 Saloon car. He was found in possession of a pump action gun and two cartridges. The police also have in custody one Apalobi Daniel, who allegedly strangled his wife to death during an argument.
The Edo State Government, in collaboration with the police and other security agencies, remains committed to sensitizing the public about the dangers posed by cult groups and criminal activities. The aim is to create a safe and secure environment for all residents of the state.
The arrests of these suspected cultists and the recovery of dangerous weapons underscore the ongoing efforts to tackle crime and maintain law and order in Edo State. The authorities will continue to work tirelessly to ensure the safety and well-being of the people.
