On August 29, 2024, the Lagos State Police Command successfully rescued a 25-year-old man, whose identity has been withheld for privacy reasons, following his abduction in the Oke Moro area of Ishashi. The operation led to the arrest of three suspects believed to be involved in the crime.
The incident unfolded on Tuesday when the victim was reportedly abducted around noon by a group of armed individuals. Eyewitnesses in the vicinity quickly alerted the police, prompting an immediate response from the Ishashi Police Division. Officers, led by the Divisional Police Officer, acted swiftly, engaging in a rescue operation that successfully freed the victim and apprehended the suspects.
Benjamin Hundeyin, the Public Relations Officer for the Lagos State Police Command, confirmed the successful rescue and subsequent arrests to reporters. He detailed that the police received a distress call from a concerned citizen who reported the ongoing kidnapping. Upon arrival at the scene, the police found the victim and detained the three suspects: Edem Chucks, Oluwatobi Adeniji, and Emmanuel Ebere.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim had been subjected to physical abuse during his captivity. Furthermore, it was disclosed that the kidnappers had demanded a ransom of N2 million, which the victim’s mother paid into two separate bank accounts controlled by the suspects. In addition to this, the suspects allegedly transferred another N1 million from the victim’s account through a mobile banking transaction.
The police are currently conducting further investigations to track down additional members of the kidnapping group who may have escaped during the rescue operation. The swift action taken by the police underscores their commitment to tackling the wave of kidnappings that has affected various communities in Lagos.
This incident marks the second kidnapping case reported in Lagos within a week. Previously, on August 29, 2024, incident where local residents successfully thwarted an attempted kidnapping of a car dealer along Èbúté Igbogbo Road in the Ikorodu Local Government Area. Such occurrences highlight the ongoing challenges of security and safety in the region.

As law enforcement continues to address these pressing issues, the Lagos State Police Command urges the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities in their neighborhoods. The community’s cooperation is crucial in combating crime and ensuring the safety of all residents.
