NANS Urges Long-Term Solutions to Borno Flooding Crisis

Afeez Akinteye, President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), has extended heartfelt condolences to victims of the recent flooding in Maiduguri, Borno State. In a statement on Wednesday, Akinteye expressed deep concern for the students and staff of Mohamet Lawan College of Agriculture, who were severely impacted by the floods. He emphasized that the disaster has disrupted the lives of thousands, including students striving to achieve their academic goals.

“The flooding has not only devastated homes but has also jeopardized the educational aspirations of many young people,” Akinteye stated. He called on the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to mobilize resources and deliver aid to affected communities, with special focus on displaced students.

NANS urged the government to provide temporary shelters, food, medical care, and psychosocial support for those displaced. They also advocated for long-term solutions to ensure that students can safely return to their academic pursuits without further delay.

The group called for collaborative efforts between the state government, NEMA, and humanitarian organizations to restore normalcy and mitigate the impact of the disaster on students and the wider community.
