According to Omolola Odutola, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, the incident occurred around 1:35 PM when the suspects reportedly broke into the ranch. The robbers accessed the premises by forcing their way through the windows, surprising the security guard, Friday Ogan. During the confrontation, Ogan sustained severe injuries, including a deep cut to his leg.
The assault did not end there. Adamu Idi, the elderly farmer, was also attacked with a machete, resulting in a significant injury to his head. Following the alarming reports, local law enforcement acted swiftly. The police were notified of the attack, and the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) promptly transported the injured individuals to Love and Care Hospital for immediate medical attention.
Fortunately, despite the violent nature of the robbery, no livestock was reported stolen from the ranch. Odutola confirmed that efforts to locate and apprehend the suspects are underway, as investigations into the incident continue. She emphasized the police’s commitment to ensuring the safety of the community and stated that further updates would be provided as new information becomes available.
This incident is part of a troubling pattern of violence against farmers in the region. Earlier reports, such as one from July 15, 2024, highlighted a similar case where a maize farmer named Ogar Fidelis was brutally attacked and killed at his farm in the Odomosibi area of Ijebu-Igbo. Fidelis was found in critical condition with severe injuries, ultimately succumbing to his wounds. Such incidents have raised alarms about the safety of agricultural workers and the urgent need for improved security measures in rural areas.
As the investigation progresses, local communities remain on edge, hoping for swift justice and enhanced protection from future attacks. The Ogun State Police have assured the public that they are dedicated to tackling the rising crime rates and ensuring a safer environment for all residents.
