In a troubling incident that has drawn significant attention, the Yobe State Commissioner of Police, CP Garba Ahmed, has ordered an immediate investigation into a homicide case involving Inspector Mohammed Bulama. The inspector, who is attached to the Police Mobile Force, 41 Division in Damaturu, the state capital, is accused of stabbing a man during a heated argument.
According to a press release issued by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Yobe Police Command, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, the incident occurred on September 29, 2024, around 6:20 PM. The altercation reportedly arose between Inspector Bulama, aged 38, and Abdulmalik Dauda, also known as Baksha, a 39-year-old resident of Pompomari Ward in Damaturu. The confrontation began over an unresolved financial transaction in the Zango area, escalating quickly from a verbal dispute to a physical confrontation.
During this altercation, it is alleged that Inspector Bulama stabbed Dauda in the chest, resulting in severe injuries. The statement from the police indicated that Dauda also sustained head injuries during the confrontation, highlighting the violent nature of the incident.

Following the event, Inspector Bulama sought refuge at the ‘C’ Divisional Police Headquarters, where he was subsequently arrested. The Yobe State Criminal Investigation Department has since commenced an investigation into the matter. As of now, Inspector Bulama remains in custody, awaiting both internal disciplinary action and potential prosecution.
Commissioner Ahmed has condemned the actions of Inspector Bulama, expressing deep regret over the loss of life and extending condolences to the family of the victim, Dauda. He emphasized the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to uphold justice and accountability, stating, “The Nigeria Police Force will not tolerate any misconduct from its personnel. We will ensure that justice is served and the perpetrator is held accountable.”
This incident has raised concerns about police conduct and the accountability of law enforcement officers in Nigeria. The public has been assured that the investigation will be thorough and swift, aimed at ensuring that such tragic events do not recur in the future.
The case has sparked discussions within the community and among law enforcement officials regarding the need for better conflict resolution strategies and training for police personnel to prevent similar incidents. As the investigation unfolds, the focus remains on ensuring justice for Abdulmalik Dauda and restoring public trust in the police force.
