A devastating petrol tanker explosion in Majiya Town, located in the Taura Local Government Area of Jigawa, has resulted in the deaths of at least 90 people. The incident occurred late Tuesday night, around 11:30 p.m., when the tanker driver lost control near Khadija University, leading to the explosion.
In addition to the fatalities, approximately 50 individuals have been hospitalized with various injuries sustained from the blast. The driver, who was en route from Kano to Nguru in Yobe State, reportedly lost control of the vehicle, causing the catastrophic accident.
Authorities expressed concern over the mass gathering of bystanders at the scene, despite police warnings to maintain distance from accidents involving fuel tankers. This congregation significantly contributed to the high number of casualties.
A mass burial for the victims is scheduled for Wednesday morning at 9 a.m., while the injured are currently receiving treatment at Ringim General Hospital.
