Suspected cultists killed two people on Monday at Odiokwu junction in Ula-Ehuda, located in Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State. This attack occurred less than a day after five individuals were murdered in Edeoha, a nearby community.
Hector Chinem, the spokesperson for the Igbu-Akoh kingdom, reported that locals had observed suspicious activity on Sunday evening, including individuals wearing military gear. By Monday morning, two youths were found dead, their bodies riddled with bullets.
Chinem expressed concern over the recent surge in violence, especially as the community had just experienced the loss of five lives the previous day. He urged the state’s police commissioner to increase security in the area, as remnants of cult groups were believed to be terrorizing local residents.
In his statement, Chinem also appealed to local youths to put down their arms, stating, “We are not at war with anyone, and this violence needs to stop.” Despite efforts to reach the state police spokesperson, no response had been received at the time of this report. Families of the victims have already begun burying their loved ones, while many residents are fleeing due to rising tensions.
