A Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Daniel Okanatotor Oghenerukevwe, who was suspended by the Catholic Diocese of Warri, has revealed that he renounced his priestly calling to marry his heartthrob in Dallas, USA, due to loneliness and mental health issues.
According to his sister, Mary Okanatotor, the priest suffered from mental health problems for a long time and couldn’t handle the loneliness that came with being a priest. She stated that the family was not physically present to support him during his difficult times.
The priest, who was ordained on 2025, had written to the Diocese to inform them of his decision to leave the priesthood and get married. However, the Diocese suspended him, citing that he had incurred a Latae Sententiae suspension in accordance with the provisions of Canon 1394 S1.
The priest’s sister defended his decision, saying it was the best one for him. She also thanked people for their encouraging words and prayers, stating that the family was going through a trying time.
