Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has called on parents, guardians, and caregivers to intensify efforts in guiding their children away from cult-related activities and other vices capable of jeopardizing their future.
In a message to mark this year’s Children’s Day celebration, the Governor congratulated children across Edo State and Nigeria, describing them as the hope and leaders of tomorrow. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to safeguarding their rights and ensuring a conducive environment for them to thrive.
“Our children are our most valuable assets. Their dreams represent the blueprints of a brighter future for Edo State. As an administration, we remain dedicated to investing in their development, protecting their rights, and nurturing their talents,” Governor Okpebholo stated.
The Governor also highlighted several initiatives rolled out by his administration to improve the welfare of children in the state. Key among them is the sustained investment in the education sector, marked by the recent declaration of a state of emergency in public schools, alongside ongoing reconstruction and renovation projects aimed at providing conducive learning environments.
Governor Okpebholo emphasized the importance of protecting children from abuse, violence, and exploitation, noting that the state government has continued to enforce laws safeguarding children’s rights while ensuring their unhindered access to quality education.
He added that the administration remains committed to youth empowerment and development, tackling issues like cultism and violence, and providing opportunities for young people to grow into productive, responsible citizens.
“We believe every child, irrespective of background, deserves a fair chance at success,” the Governor declared. “We will continue to work tirelessly to equip them with the tools, skills, and opportunities needed to excel in academics and other pursuits, and contribute meaningfully to society.”
Governor Okpebholo further urged parents, guardians, and teachers to redouble efforts in mentoring and guiding children on the right path, instilling sound values, and encouraging them to chase their dreams.
He concluded by encouraging children in the state to embrace education, dream big, and strive for excellence, assuring them of his administration’s unrelenting support for their growth and future.
