The Alumni Association of Mass Communication Students (AMCOS) Class of 2006, Auchi Polytechnic, has successfully held its maiden reunion, reuniting former classmates nearly two decades after graduation in a nostalgic weekend of reflection, reconnection, and renewal.

The three-day gathering, which took place from Friday to Sunday at the Millennium Grand Hotel, Benin City, Edo State, attracted members of the 2006 set from across Nigeria and the diaspora. Attendees, now thriving as broadcasters, entrepreneurs, consultants, communication strategists, and investment professionals, came together to celebrate shared memories and chart new frontiers.

In his opening remarks, Interim President of the association, Mr. Osunde Charles, described the event as a “homecoming of hearts,” urging members to rekindle bonds forged in their days at Auchi Polytechnic.

“We’re not just reconnecting with faces; we’re reigniting memories, friendships, and experiences that shaped us. Our alma mater moulded us, and this gathering reminds us of our journey, our lessons, and the lives we’ve built,” Osunde said.

He also led a solemn tribute in honour of departed classmates, declaring: “You live forever in our hearts.”

Highlights of the reunion included a fitness walk through the streets of Benin, a networking cocktail, wellness and travel expos, and a series of lectures on entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and healthy living.

Speaking on “Sustainable Investment Opportunities,” finance expert Mr. Aigbe Omoregie urged members to adopt financial discipline, transparent bookkeeping, and business integrity, emphasizing these as non-negotiables for success in today’s economy.

On health matters, Dr. Jane Uche, CEO of Ariya Wellness Hub, advocated for proactive health management among alumni, encouraging holistic and natural healthcare approaches, especially as members advance in age.

Chairman of the Reunion Planning Committee, Mr. Osasere Ehigiamusoe, expressed heartfelt appreciation to attendees, applauding their resilience in braving tough economic realities to participate.

“Some crossed states, others crossed the Atlantic, just to be here. Your presence reaffirms that the spirit of AMCOS lives on,” he said.

He extended gratitude to those who provided financial support and urged members to leverage the revived network for both social and economic opportunities.

A key milestone of the reunion was the election of a new executive council to steer the association’s affairs for the next two years a move widely hailed as a critical step in formalizing and strengthening AMCOS’ institutional presence beyond the reunion.

Attendees who spoke with the media described the experience as nostalgic, emotional, and inspiring, with many pledging to contribute more actively to the association’s growth.

As the curtain drew on the maiden reunion, members departed with rekindled friendships, fresh collaborations, and a collective resolve to turn nostalgia into a lasting platform for progress.
