Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has ordered the immediate redeployment of security personnel, including the Camp Commandant on duty at the Government House, Benin City, on July 11, 2025, following the controversial lockout of journalists and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the Supreme Court victory celebration.
Expressing deep disappointment over the incident, the Governor described the action as unacceptable, unauthorized, and completely inconsistent with the inclusive leadership style of his administration.
Governor Okpebholo, who expressed regret at the treatment meted out to invited guests, APC supporters, and members of the press, stated that such acts undermine the very essence of the celebration and the principles of open governance.
In swift response, the Governor announced the constitution of an investigative committee to identify those responsible for the incident and assured that any officer found culpable would face appropriate disciplinary measures.
“This unfortunate decision neither originated from me nor reflects my values as Governor of Edo State. I will never knowingly authorize any action that disrespects our supporters or the media. The people elected me, and I remain firmly committed to openness, accessibility, and respect for all stakeholders,” Governor Okpebholo declared.
He reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to fostering a culture of transparency, unity, and inclusiveness, assuring the public, the APC family, and media professionals of their valued place in the journey to reposition Edo State for greater progress.
