According to him, when Dr. Sam Egwu took office as the first civilian Governor of the  State, he was faced with numerous challenges, including illiteracy and underdevelopment.

“The state was often referred to as the “Siberia of Nigeria,” a metaphor for a place where rejects were kept. However, under Dr. Egwu’s leadership, the state began to experience significant development, with a focus on human capital, infrastructure, and spiritual growth.

Dr. Otu highlighted the importance of investing in human capital, which was a major priority for the  Dr. Egwu administration. The government empowered people academically, intellectually, and otherwise, laying a solid foundation for the state’s development.

According to Dr. Otu, “Ebonyi people were lucky to have His Excellency Dr. Sam Egwu as the first governor of Ebonyi State, as he laid the solid foundation in the state.”

Turning to the present government under Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, Dr. Otu Commended the governor’s policy direction and focus on human development.

He noted that Governor Nwifuru has followed the legacy left by past governments, particularly in the area of education, where he has provided scholarships both locally and overseas.

Dr. Otu also commended the Governor’s efforts in reorganizing the civil service, promoting industrialization, and improving healthcare.

Dr. Otu offered an advice to the government, emphasizing the importance of taking the people closer to God and maximizing the state’s potentials in areas of strength, such as agriculture.

He also urged the government to be more open and not view opponents as enemies, but rather as alternative leaders.

“As Ebonyi State continues to progress and develop, Hon. Otu’s insights provide a valuable perspective on the state’s journey. With a strong foundation laid by past governments and the present administration  focusing on human development and progress, the state is poised for a brighter future.” Dr. John Otu noted,
