The Federal Government has dismissed as false and misleading an online report alleging the cancellation of the 2025 West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and National Examinations Council (NECO) examinations due to widespread malpractice.
In an official statement released on Sunday, July 20, 2025, Boriowo Folasade, Director of Press and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Education, clarified that the WAEC examination has been successfully concluded, and only a few isolated cases of malpractice were reported and swiftly addressed.
The Ministry also confirmed that the ongoing NECO examinations are progressing without incident, with no reports of malpractice recorded so far.
“The 2025 WAEC Examinations have been successfully concluded, with only a few isolated incidents of malpractice reported, all of which were promptly addressed by the relevant authorities,” the statement read.
“The ongoing NECO Examinations are progressing smoothly, and as of this release, no cases of examination malpractice have been reported.”
Folasade stressed that neither WAEC nor NECO has issued any communication to the Ministry indicating systemic malpractice or any grounds for cancellation of the examinations.
The Federal Government urged students, parents, and school administrators to disregard the fake press release currently circulating on social media, describing it as “entirely fabricated, misleading, and intended to cause unnecessary panic and confusion.”
The Ministry further warned that individuals responsible for disseminating such falsehoods will be investigated and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
“We advise the public to seek information only from verified sources including the official websites of the Ministry of Education, WAEC, and NECO,” the Ministry added.
