Tinubu: Nigeria’s Story Would Be Incomplete If I Had Lost the 2023 Election

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared that his victory in the 2023 presidential election was not just a personal triumph but a pivotal moment in Nigeria’s national history. According to the President, had he lost the election, Nigeria’s democratic journey would have missed a defining chapter.

Tinubu made this remark during the 8th-day Fidau prayer held in honour of the late Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State. The President, who spoke emotionally, described the late monarch as a spiritual pillar in his political life, revealing that Oba Adetona had boldly prophesied his victory before the 2023 polls.

“Let me say this openly: our history would not be complete if I had failed in the last election. Kabiyesi told me I would win — not just once, but again,” Tinubu said to a crowd of political leaders, royal fathers, and community members.

The President’s reflection comes amid growing political realignments and debates ahead of the 2027 general elections, where he is widely expected to seek re-election under the APC platform.

Tinubu’s comment is being viewed by many as a subtle reaffirmation of his intention to return for a second term, but also a deeper assertion that his presidency represents a critical chapter in Nigeria’s unfolding democratic experiment.

Analysts believe Tinubu is already laying the groundwork for 2027, using key moments like this to solidify his legitimacy and reframe the narrative of his contentious election win as a national turning point rather than a political anomaly.
