‎President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Nigeria’s Super Falcons following their hard-fought 2–1 semi-final win over South Africa at the ongoing Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

‎The dramatic victory on Tuesday evening sealed Nigeria’s place in the final and put them within touching distance of a record-extending 10th WAFCON title.

‎

‎In a statement released shortly after the final whistle, President Tinubu described the Falcons’ performance as “superlative,” praising their display of “grit, talent, and the indomitable Nigerian spirit.”

‎

‎“Well deserved! Congratulations to our Super Falcons!” the president wrote. “Your incredible WAFCON 2025 semi-finals victory over South Africa today was nothing short of superlative. It was a magnificent display of grit, talent, and the indomitable Nigerian spirit.”

‎

‎“You have made the nation proud. Keep soaring. Don’t stop until you bring the trophy home. Go for our 10th title. Nigerians worldwide are rooting for you. We are waiting to receive the cup.”

‎

‎The match, widely billed as a clash of continental giants, lived up to expectations. Nigeria took the lead late in the first half through captain Rasheedat Ajibade, who converted a penalty after a handball in the box. South Africa drew level in the second half with a penalty of their own, calmly dispatched by Linda Motlhalo.

‎

‎Just when extra time seemed inevitable, defender Michelle Alozie stunned the Banyana Banyana defence in stoppage time with a speculative long ball that slipped past the South African goalkeeper and into the net securing Nigeria’s spot in the final.

‎

‎The Super Falcons will now face the winner of the other semi-final clash between host nation Morocco and Ghana. Victory in the final would give Nigeria a record 10th WAFCON crown, further cementing their dominance in women’s football on the continent.
