Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has dismissed a recent directive by Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo, which urged him to seek security clearance before visiting the state.
Speaking in Onitsha, Anambra State, during an event at his alma mater, Christ The King College (CKC), Obi asserted that no one could stop him from visiting any part of Nigeria.
“I’m used to receiving threats. I will go to Edo any time I want,” Obi declared during an interview at CKC on Thursday.
The former Anambra State governor, who visited CKC to donate ₦50 million on behalf of the old boys association to support the college’s development, advised Governor Okpebholo to focus on encouraging citizens who support public institutions, not issuing threats.
Obi was warmly received by Archbishop Valerian Okeke, the Archbishop of Onitsha Ecclesiastical Province, along with the college’s management and students. During the event, he commended the school’s leadership, describing their efforts as “phenomenal,” and emphasized the importance of investing in education.
In his remarks, Archbishop Okeke praised Obi for his consistent support for education and his vision for building a better Nigeria.
