Kim Lars Björkegren, the head coach of Ghana’s Black Queens, has tipped Nigeria’s Super Falcons to emerge victorious in the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) final against hosts Morocco. The Super Falcons, who are the most successful team in the history of the competition with nine titles, are expected to leverage their quality and potential to secure the win.
Björkegren’s prediction comes after his team suffered a 3-1 defeat to the Super Falcons in a pre-WAFCON friendly last month. The Swede believes that Justine Madugu’s side has the necessary quality to beat Morocco in the final.
“I think it’s going to be an interesting game, both teams are a little different, but I think there is potential and more quality in Nigeria,” Björkegren said. He even went as far as saying that Nigeria could win the tournament with their second team, stating “There are so many good players in Nigeria. Nigeria can probably play with a second team and also win the tournament that’s my opinion”.
The Super Falcons are indeed a formidable team, and if they win the final, it will be their record-extending 10th WAFCON title.
