Fayose Predicts PDP Will Place Fourth in 2027 Elections, Slams Party Leadership

Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has predicted a bleak electoral future for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stating that the opposition party may finish in fourth place in the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during an appearance on Channels Television’s *Politics Today* on Friday, the outspoken PDP chieftain blamed internal crises and the marginalization of loyal party members for the party’s declining relevance.

“It is my prayer that the PDP will come fourth. Today, I am telling you the PDP will come fourth in the general elections,” Fayose declared.

The former governor, who was part of the now-defunct G5 governors’ group, criticized the current leadership of the party for sidelining key figures and fostering disunity. He lamented what he described as sabotage and disrespect shown to longstanding members like himself.

“In most states, they are already compromised. They have eased out so many leaders. I have paid my dues in PDP. You cannot continue to match a man like me. I don’t have friends in PDP. I came to PDP alone,” he said.

Fayose described the PDP as a weakened entity, stating, “Associating with PDP today is shameful enough. The party is too weak to take a grab of anything lately. PDP is not an issue for now. With more prayers, PDP will end up in the fourth position.”

He also took a swipe at former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, alleging that Atiku’s certainty of clinching the PDP’s 2023 presidential ticket led him to frustrate other potential candidates.

“Atiku knew he was going to get the ticket of PDP, that was why he moved to the African Democratic Congress (ADC),” he claimed, without providing evidence.

When asked if he would support Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde as a potential PDP presidential candidate, Fayose said he had no objections: “If Governor Makinde becomes the flag bearer, Nigerians will decide. I have no issue with that.”
