The Edo State Police Command has launched an investigation into the alleged brutalisation of Hon. Okai Akhani by members of a local vigilante group in Auchi, Etsako West Local Government Area.
A viral video of the incident, which reportedly occurred on Saturday, July 26, 2025, has sparked public outrage and condemnation across social media and civic groups.
In response, the Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command, CP Monday Agbonika, fdc, has ordered a full-scale investigation to uncover the facts of the case, identify those involved, and bring the culprits to justice in line with the law.
The Command strongly condemned any unlawful assault or abuse of power, stating it would not tolerate impunity or human rights violations, regardless of who is involved.
While maintaining its support for community policing and the auxiliary role of vigilante groups in maintaining local security, the Command emphasized that such efforts must always be lawful and uphold the dignity and rights of all citizens.
Residents have been urged to remain calm and law-abiding while the police carry out their investigation. Updates will be made available as new findings emerge.
