The Nigerian women's basketball team, D'Tigress, has advanced to the semifinals of the 2025 FIBA Women's AfroBasket with a dominating 83-47 victory over Cameroon. The six-time and defending champions will now face Senegal in the next stage of the competition. The quarterfinals match started with Cameroon taking an early lead, opening the game on a 4-0 run. However, Nigeria quickly responded, going up 7-4. The depth of Coach Rena Wakama's side soon overwhelmed the Cameroonian team, which appeared fatigued after a demanding late-night qualification clash against Angola. The Nigerian team dominated the game, showcasing their skill and experience. The team's depth and talent were too much for Cameroon to handle, leading to a convincing 36-point victory. D'Tigress will now face Senegal in the semifinals, looking to continue their impressive performance and make a strong bid for their seventh title. The team's next match will be a crucial test of their skills and determination. Construction has officially commenced on the expansion of the Benin-Asaba dual carriageway, with Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, on Wednesday leading an inspection tour of the transformative project and other key infrastructure works across Benin City.

Describing the projects as tangible evidence of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, Governor Okpebholo expressed satisfaction with the scope and pace of work. He said the 10-lane expressway, which spans approximately 20 kilometers, is expected to have a significant portion completed before Christmas 2025.

“This is part of the Renewed Hope Agenda of Mr. President. He is taking this road straight to Asaba. It is going to be 10 lanes five on one side, five on the other side,” the Governor stated during the inspection.

Accompanied by officials from Africa Plus Partners and the Benin-Asaba Expressway Concession Company Limited, Okpebholo emphasized that the infrastructure expansion was a direct outcome of high-level collaboration between the federal and state governments.

“Remember when this road was flagged off a few months ago, the Minister for Works was here. The Minister for Finance was also here. And I was here. This is the fruit of that flag-off. And this is the demonstration of Mr. President’s Renewed Hope Agenda for our people,” he added.

Project Director, Mr. K. V. Rao, explained that preliminary works, including traffic diversion and palliative measures, are already in motion. Full-scale construction, he disclosed, will begin on August 5, 2025.

“What is currently going on right now is a palliative work to divert the entire traffic on the right-hand side of the road,” Rao said. “Real work will transform the existing road into a ten-lane highway featuring two main carriageways with two lanes left, two lanes right, and two dedicated service roads on both sides.”

The Governor also inspected other major projects, including the reconstruction of Amufi Road, which connects the Amufi, Okpagha, Iyanomo, and Egiekpe communities, as well as the ongoing flyover construction at Ramat Park a strategic intervention aimed at decongesting traffic and enhancing urban mobility.

Together, these projects are poised to redefine connectivity, economic activity, and daily life in Benin City and the surrounding areas. Governor Okpebholo reiterated his administration’s resolve to align Edo State with the broader vision of the Tinubu-led federal government.

“The Renewed Hope Agenda is not just a slogan it’s a blueprint for real, visible, and measurable development,” Okpebholo declared.
