The management of Green Legacy Hotel, a facility within the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) in Abeokuta, has threatened legal action against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over what it described as an unlawful invasion of its premises.
In a statement issued by the hotel’s Managing Director, Vitalis Ortese, the management alleged that at about 2 a.m. on Sunday, around 50 armed EFCC operatives stormed the hotel during a private event, firing gunshots and threatening guests.
According to the statement, the organisers and hotel management had engaged police officers from the OOPL gates and Kemta Police Station to provide security for the function. However, neither group was informed of the EFCC’s operation, and no warrant was presented.
“The EFCC’s action is a clear invasion of private property, a violation of OOPL’s rights, and an infringement on the rights of guests at the event,” Ortese said. “We demand a formal explanation and an apology from the EFCC for the chaos, injuries, and rights violations caused. Failing this, we will be left with no choice but to seek redress in court.”
