Okpebholo Reaffirms War Against Cultism, Kidnapping at 55th Birthday Thanksgiving

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has restated his administration’s resolve to defeat cultism and kidnapping, describing them as the twin scourges that have long terrorised the state.

Speaking at a thanksgiving service held at the Government House Chapel to mark his 55th birthday, the Governor, represented by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Fred Itua, recalled that barely 48 hours after his inauguration in November 2024, cult-related violence claimed over 20 lives in Edo.

“News of that tragedy reached me in Ondo barely two days after I assumed office. Right there, I vowed to fight cultism, kidnapping, and other criminal activities to a standstill. Nine months on, by God’s grace and with the support of Edo people, we are winning that war,” Okpebholo said.

The Governor emphasised that his administration has restored confidence and stability to the state, delivering on security, roads, schools, and healthcare.

Government officials, religious leaders, and associates at the thanksgiving praised his leadership. Special Adviser on Electronic Media, Mr. Paul Ezenwa, said: “Many doubted him before he assumed office, but he has not disappointed. Edo people should continue to support him with prayers.”

Similarly, the Special Adviser on Health, Dr. Andrew Iyamu, lauded Okpebholo for appointing credible individuals strictly on merit. “In nine months, roads, schools, flyovers, and other infrastructure are springing up across Edo. The Governor is on a rescue mission to reverse years of retrogression,” he stated.

Special Adviser on Media and Communication Strategy, Mr. Godswill Inegbe, described the Governor as “a humble leader whose Christian faith shapes his service,” while Reverend Ezele Frank commended him for tackling cultism head-on a move he said past administrations avoided.

Apostle Sule Farade, Chaplain of the Government House Chapel, added that Okpebholo’s leadership is “divinely ordained to bring peace and development to Edo State.”

The service ended with prayers for the Governor’s health, wisdom, and strength. As he marked his 55th year, the resounding message was clear: Edo is experiencing a new wave of leadership defined by courage, compassion, and fulfilment of promises.
