The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, has described the conviction of pro-Biafra agitator Simon Ekpa by a Finnish court as a “landmark victory in the global fight against terrorism and violent extremism.”
In a statement on Wednesday, Musa said the ruling underscored the principle that “sponsors of terrorism will be held accountable, regardless of their location.”
He commended Nigeria’s security, intelligence, and law enforcement agencies, alongside diplomats, for providing actionable evidence that aided the conviction. According to him, the success reflects “the power of international cooperation and collaboration.”
Ekpa was sentenced to six years’ imprisonment by the Päijät-Häme District Court in Finland after being found guilty of terrorism offences, including “participating in terrorism.”
Reaffirming the Armed Forces’ commitment to work with global partners, the CDS urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and support ongoing security operations against insurgency and violent separatist activities.
