Ossiomo Power, an indigenous electricity company, has reaffirmed its ownership of critical power infrastructure located at Ologbo, Edo State, dismissing recent claims by Chinese firm, CCETC.
Findings reveal that Ossiomo has held statutory licences and approvals for power generation and transmission in Edo State since 2008, making it the exclusive owner of the gas infrastructure, power plant, and transmission network tied to the project.
Investigations further indicate that CCETC’s role was limited to a 2018 contract for the supply and installation of engines for the Independent Power Project (IPP1). The contract did not transfer or confer ownership of any assets to the company.
Insiders suggest that CCETC’s recent moves to assert ownership may be an attempt to influence state authorities and create uncertainty around Ossiomo’s operations.
Analysts have cautioned that undermining an indigenous operator in favour of a foreign contractor could threaten Nigeria’s local content policy and compromise energy security in Edo State.
