In a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Oredo Local Government Council, the Chairman of the Council Hon. Engr. Gabriel Iduseri, has expressed deep concern over the fire incident that occurred on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at the Oba Market, Ring Road, Benin City.
The chairman directed that a thorough investigation be carried out immediately to determine the actual cause of the fire, while relevant security and emergency agencies were mobilized to the scene to restore normalcy and prevent further damage.
The Oredo Council Chairman also commended the swift response of the Edo State Fire Service and other emergency responders who promptly contained the inferno, preventing it from spreading to other parts of the market.
He assured traders and residents that the Council would work closely with affected victims to assess the level of damage and provide necessary support within its capacity, even as he dismissed initial speculations about the cause of the fire, noting that investigations were still ongoing.
Hon. Iduseri appealed to members of the public to remain calm and cooperate with the authorities as efforts continue to restore normalcy and support the traders affected by the incident.
