The Executive Chairman of Egor Local Government Area, Hon. Osaro Osa Eribo, has refuted claims linking his office to political interference in the ongoing Iyaloja Market dispute, describing them as deliberate attempts to mislead the public and discredit his administration.
Addressing stakeholders and protesters at the Council Secretariat, Hon. Eribo explained that his administration has remained neutral in the leadership tussle, noting that the issue is already before a competent court. He said that while several factions had approached him to intervene, he deliberately chose not to take sides in order to respect due process and the independence of market associations.
Hon. Eribo further explained that his only involvement came after security agencies raised concerns over plans by certain individuals to take advantage of the situation and incite unrest. Acting on the intelligence report, he said the council promptly took steps to forestall any breakdown of law and order and to protect the livelihoods of traders who depend on daily income to sustain their families. The Chairman added that his action was a precautionary measure to ensure peace and prevent damage to lives and property.
He expressed disappointment that some individuals have tried to twist his genuine efforts for political purposes, stressing that his focus has always been the wellbeing of Egor residents. According to him, the allegations of bias were unfounded and intended to distract from the real issues. He urged those peddling falsehoods to refrain from divisive politics, saying that true leadership should promote stability, not propaganda or conflict.
Hon. Eribo called on all market stakeholders and community leaders to embrace dialogue and unity in resolving the dispute. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to development, empowerment, and communal harmony, adding that lasting progress can only thrive in an environment of peace and mutual respect.
