Turin, Italy — October 21, 2025 — A 41-year-old Nigerian construction worker, Andy Mwachoko, died on Saturday, October 18, following a workplace accident at the Torino Esposizioni construction site on Corso Massimo d’Azeglio 17 in Turin.
Mwachoko was originally from Nigeria but had been living and working in Puglia, southern Italy, where he was employed by the construction company Cobar S.p.A., based in Altamura (province of Bari). He was in Turin temporarily as part of a major redevelopment project at Torino Esposizioni.
According to initial reports, Mwachoko was moving metal mesh panels when a lifting support reportedly failed, causing the load to fall and fatally strike him. Emergency responders from Italy’s 118 service arrived promptly but were unable to revive him.
Mwachoko, employed by a contractor on the site, is survived by his wife and three children in Nigeria. Authorities — including police and workplace-safety inspectors — have opened an investigation to establish the exact dynamics of the incident and verify compliance with safety procedures. The Mayor of Turin, Stefano Lo Russo, has expressed condolences to the family.
